Yin-Yang yoga retreat – Finding your balance

Yin-Yang stands for balance.

During this retreat we want to bring balance to your body, mind and heart. We want you to find a way to bring balance into your daily busy life.

We will take you on a journey passed the 5 elements, opening the body with yin practices, making the body stronger with dynamic practices, also doing various practices to quiet the mind, connect to yourself and find your inner peace.

Yin & Yang = Perfect combination

Yin yoga is all about surrender and letting your muscles relax. Yang yoga is more like a typical vinyasa flow (dynamic yoga) class; keeping the body’s functionality and mobilizes the energy body to refresh the body’s vibrancy. When combined they compliment each other and balance out your energy.

By practicing Yin yoga before Yang (which we do during a few Yin-Yang sessions) we can carry over Yin’s very mindful way of practicing into our dynamic Yang practice. We truly benefit from the openness of the body and the stillness of the mind. It is also really beneficial for those of us who might tend towards competitiveness or striving in asanas.

Jane Bakx – 500 RYT

Jane is an E-200RYT + 500RYT yoga teacher (Yoga Alliance certified) from the Netherlands. She lived in Amsterdam for most of her life and worked as a producer in advertising. She practised yoga for over 15 years and has been teaching for years. After her two yoga teacher training courses (both in India), she decided to leave her job in advertising and follow her heart and passion for yoga full time. Since then, she has been teaching and traveling around the world and also organizes retreats. She mainly practices Vinyasa and Yin yoga herself and sometimes also Ashtanga.

To Jane yoga is all about making a connection with yourself; with your body, mind and heart. Through yoga you learn to listen more to your body. The focus in Jane’s classes is mainly on making that connection to yourself and at the same time getting more flexible and strong.

We were fortunate enough to have Jane as our teacher for the Rebalance & Renew retreat on Bonaire from April 7-14 2018.
As beginners, we weren’t quite sure what to expect, but Jane was fabulous at making us feel comfortable and safe. She provided both of us with a wealth of knowledge about Yoga practice, and supported us in finding poses that were specifically adapted to our personal challenges. We definitely recommend Jane and any of her classes or retreats to all Yogi levels.
Jane has been a fantastic teacher who lit a fire for Yoga and made us aware of the importance of mindfulness in our daily lives.
We’d love to come back and spend another week doing Yoga with her at one of the most beautiful spots on Earth

DAILY YIN & YANG YOGA

Yin and Yang

During this week we will will do yin and yang yoga sessions. The combination of the more yang orientated yoga like Hatha and Vinyasa with Yin yoga brings harmony to your body, mind and soul.

 

WALKING MEDITATION

Silent walk and Yoga on top of the mountain

You can do beautiful walking trails, just starting from our finca. During this retreat we will do a silent walk or walking meditation. On our way we will stop to do  yoga and meditation on top of the mountain.

YOGA ON THE BEACH

Excursion to the beach

We will go to the beach for a nice yoga beach session and a picknick. Afterwards you can relax on the beach and enjoy the Mediterranean sea. 

COOKING WORKSHOP

Our chef Tiziana is very passionate about healthy food. She  cooks delicious vegetarian food. She will share some of her kitchen secrets during a special cooking workshop. Discover how you can cook incredibly tasty and healthy with a few simple tricks!

A DAY AT OUR VIVA LA VIDA RETREAT

When you wake-up in the morning, you walk outside en watch the amazing sunrise above the mountains. You enjoy a fresh and Healthy Detox Shake and some tropical fruit. You bring your yoga mat and get ready for a dynamic morning flow at the terras. After the session our Chef will welcome you with an delicious and healthy breakfast.

Afterwards it is time to relax. You jump in the beautiful and refreshing pool for a swim. After your dip you relax on one of the sun beds next to the pool and you can finally start in this book that you really wanted to read.

In the afternoon we will have a healthy and tastefull lunch.

In the afternoon we leave for a nice silent walk. After tea time we do a nice Yin session before diner and we enjoy the sunset together.

Our chef Tiziana arranged a really nice dinner.  We enjoy the food and the views together and finish the day happy and relaxed.

STAY AT A BEAUTIFUL FINCA IN THE MOUNTAINS

A BEAUTIFUL PEACEFUL PLACE

During this retreat you stay at one of the most beautiful places in Andalusia. The old cortijo (farm) where we stay is a converted traditional Andalusian farmhouse.

The cortijo has a cozy large kitchen and living room. A beautiful terrace and a nice tropical garden. There is also a large swimming pool. The cortijo overlooks the mountains.

In general the weather around that time is very nice. The cortijo has a lot of space outdoors. The view is breathtaking. This place has a very good and peaceful atmosphere. The perfect place too relax and renew.

THE SURROUNDINGS

La Axarquia

La Axarquia area, east of Malaga city,  is breathtakingly beautiful and has not been spoilt.

The main attractions are the area’s dramatic hill and mountain scenery and its unspoiled white washed villages. Because of the region’s sub-tropical climate, this is also a region where some of the more tropical fruits, such as mango and kiwi are grown.

Periana

The charming village of Periana is located in the beautiful Axarquia region of Malaga, affording stunning views to the surrounding countryside. To the north are spectacular mountain ranges and to the south the beautiful Lake (Reservoir) Viñuela and the coastline.

The village sits along the scenic Route of the Olive Oil and Mountains, which follows the land through olive groves, mountain ranges and ancient pueblos blancos (white villages).

Periana is located just a 40 minute drive from the city of Malaga and its airport and less than 40 minutes away are the costal towns of Nerja, Torrox and Torre Del mar, which boast lovely beaches.

Walking distance from the finca: beautiful Mondron

The small white village of Móndron boasts all local amenities as well as stunning panoramic views of the beautiful mountains, surrounding countryside and nearby Lake Viñuela.

Mondron is nestled in the hills approx 600m above sea level. This small village is only 10 min walk from our finca and has a store and a nice local Spanish restaurant.

The group felt so familiar and at ease

For me it was the first time I have experienced such a retreat in this form and capacity. I can only say that I was very pleased. The group was amazing right from the start. Ilse and her husband have this wonderful ability to put you at ease instantly.

From Ilse, you get nothing but positive energy.

The most important thing I’ve learned is what really matters this life: Letting go and being in the now.

The area is exceptionally beautiful; it starts with the road to the retreat. It makes you completely relaxed and let you escape from your busy life straight away.

The olive oil farm is a very nice Retreat location; intimate and yet plenty of room to chill and go your own way.

The peace and serenity in and around the location was beautiful . And with a car you can easily go to a lot of interesting places nearby.

The program is nicely balanced with room for your own initiative.Ilse knows very well what the needs of the group are and leaves room to whether or not to participate in an activity.

At first I was a bit worried that the yoga sessions would be too much (I was still very stiff haha) but after every session I felt so great. The yoga sessions were not too difficult, even though  I did not do yoga for a long time. The Meditations were great!

I need to like the voice of someone in order to be able to relax completely and to be able to meditate. I really liked the soothing voice of Ilse-Marie.

The silent walk was very nice (It felt a bit like coming home) and the yoga session in the mountains was also very special to me.

And not to forget the Yoga excursion to the beach: this was great! What a beautiful place; it gave me an immense feeling of freedom, vacation and relaxation.

From the first moment I had a great feeling about the email contact with Ilse. She and her husband Jeroen are really warm and enthusiastic people.

The location in Alfanatejo is idyllic, what a view! Just being in this place makes your mind quiet straight away.

The yoga sessions are a wonderful combination of Yin, Hatha Vinyassa, Kundalini and Ashtanga yoga. We had our yoga sessions not only in the beautiful gardens, but also on the beach and even on top of a mountain.

If you like vegetarian food, you’re in the right place.  Alejandro, the chef has a tremendous passion for the vegetarian cuisine.

Ilse is a very good teacher with a lot of passion and love for yoga. She can also easily adjust exercises for beginners and more experienced yoga practitioners. This retreat is like a very special present for yourself, Everything was really well organized.

The meals are vegetarian / vegan, but if you think it makes it boring, you are wrong! We got served these huge colorful and flavorful meals. Alejandro the chef prepared this everyday with so much love!

We did the Yoga sessions on beautiful spots in the natural surroundings of southern Spain.

Ilse-Marie creates a new themed session every time which offers a lot of variety. You learn a lot of yoga poses in a short time.

Furthermore you will learn many ways to relax.

It is the perfect way to escape from the everyday hustle and bustle!  The music used is wonderful and hugely relaxing. You will notice that Ilse-Marie with her warm personality, love, care and personal attention does everything to make sure your week is perfect!

The retreat is very inspiring and makes you feel like you’ve been gone for a month!

As an entrepreneur I am very busy.

I wanted to unwind and relax and I had great interest in yoga and meditation. And where can you better dive into yoga and meditation than under the Spanish sun?

This beautiful location felt directly as coming home.

A old cortijo has these beautiful charming  rooms, amazing gardens, and a lovely pool.

And what a setting; the best views of Andalusia!

The sessions Ilse-Marie were perfect for me. Through the devotion, personal attention and passion of Ilse-Marie I came quickly in the proper flow of yoga and meditation. But as well the delicious food, the beach visit, the relaxing in between sessions (book certainly a massage) make the retreat a must.

Anyone involved in this yoga retreat is doing it with so much with passion, that it makes the retreat really special and personal. Whether you are completely familiar with yoga or a beginner like me, after you returned from the retreat you are totally relaxed and you will love yoga and meditation.

It started with a nice contact with Ilse via whatapp and email. The warm welcome by Jeroen at the airport.

After that I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful nature, and authentic accommodation, the healthy but very tasty food, the great yoga sessions and the really nice people.

Viva La Vida Yoga Retreat Spain

The great location in the Andalusian mountains, the lovely group, super tasty food and nice yoga and meditation classes  of Ilse gave me a huge energy boost.

As a beginner, I have learned a lot in one week. Ilse has inspired me!  Since I’m back home I start everyday with a few sun salutations and I started regular classes.

Ilse created a very special atmosphere where people felt safe and relaxed. I’m sure I will  book next year again.

How amazing to live 5 days in a totally different, beautiful and peaceful environment.

Yoga with Ilse was such a refreshing experience!

She was very fluent in all the languages needed to conduct the class and was able to instruct different people according to their abilities in a way that didn’t disrupt the flow of the class. I am rather new at yoga, despite dabbling with it throughout university. Ilse was able to foresee potential problems I may face and gave very clear instructions on how to manage any potential obstacles in my practice. She made yoga so accessible to someone so stiff! It was also very nice that she led us through various asanas that I might not have tried on my own. The class progressed at a comfortable pace and before I knew it, I was attempting a shoulder stand! Many yoga classes in Singapore are rather large and you don’t get feedback on your own alignment. I really appreciate Ilse’s patience and her attention to each student. Thank you Ilse! I wish I could take more yoga lessons with you!

I had a great time! What a beautiful location

I really loved the accommodation!  The buildings of the old cortijo have a lot of atmosphere and give you an intimate feeling. The  tropical gardens I liked a lot, because there were nice places everywhere to relax in the shade or in the sun.  And the views are really fantastic. The program was well balanced. You have the freedom to relax and do your own things while there was enough time with the group as well. During the yoga sessions  I liked it that it was quiet and that there was a lot of repetition so that you can learn the poses properly. Ilse has a nice voice to listen to.

The yoga session on the beach was also superb.  I found the food very tasty and nice to see Alejandro cook with so much passion. Tasty fresh vegetables and creative meals. It was great!

How can you book your retreat?

To reserve your spot we ask you to pay 150 euros deposit, or you can transfer the entire amount in one go. You can book securely and directly through our website via a direct transfer. We can also send you an invoice by email if you prefer this.

 

Costs Retreat

In the beautiful finca where we stay, there are different types of rooms available. All rooms are decorated in the typical Andaluz style. If you come together with a partner or with a friend or relative you can also book a room together.

There is also a room for 3 people available.

We have rooms with double beds and rooms with single beds.

  • You can book a really nice massage with one of our special massage therapists

 Exclusive:

  • Flight to and from Malaga.
  • Transfer airport - finca. We have a fixed transfer time (departure from airport or Malaga city center). If you travel at that time you pay 20 euros per ride. We can also arrange a transfer for you, but then the costs are slightly higher. Of course you can also rent a car yourself. This can be very advantageous (especially in low season) via, for example, www.rentalcars.com
  • A travel and / or cancellation insurance.
  • Personal Expenses like additional drinks on the beach etc.

Good to know:

  • Bring relaxed clothing
  • Yoga mats, meditation cushions and other yoga props are available for use.
  • Check-in at the location is possible from 13:00. Check out is around 12:00 (in consultation with the location sometimes later). Inquire with us about the flights that fit best.
  • You can book a flight at a good price with Transavia, Ryanair or Vueling or EasyJet. We usually use the website www.skyscanner.com. It can often be cheaper to book two single tickets. You can thus book the most advantageous price / time with eg two different companies.

If you want, we help you book.

TIP: many participants book a day and night in Malaga before or after the retreat. This is highly recommended. It is a very nice and relaxed city by the sea.

Be spoiled with the most delicious health veggie and vegan dishes

During this week Chef Tiziana will prepare delicious meals and healthy fresh shakes. The organic meals are prepared with fresh ecological products from farmers from the area. For us it is a really important to support local ecological farmers.

If you have special dietary requirements like a complete vegan or gluten-free meal, or an allergy we will adapt the meals for you.

Tiziana will surprise you with delicious vegetarian meals during the retreat. You can also join her for a free cooking workshop.

Is this Yoga Retreat something for you?

People come to us for a variety of reasons.

Some people just want to relax and have some time for themselves in a beautiful place.  

Other people visit us because they have (or had) a difficult or stressful  time or because they had an emotional period.
But this retreat is for everyone who wants to relax and who wants to feel stronger, more energetic and more focused.

It is for anyone who wants to calm their mind in a peaceful place.

Yoga & Meditations

Our yoga retreat is suitable for all levels. The yoga sessions are created for beginners and for people who already have experience with yoga and / or meditation and who would like to deepen their practice.

Yoga and meditation experience is certainly not required, the workshops are accessible for everyone. We do adjust the sessions and asanas to everyone's level.

Yoga and meditation styles

We offer Yin & Yang styles of yoga during this week. In the morning the lessons are more energetic and in the afternoon there will be a more Yin or Restorative Yoga Session.

Extra attention will be given to the practice of Yin Yoga during the retreat. During this week we also do various pranayama's (breathing techniques) and different types of meditations.

What kind of people are coming to our retreats?

We are regularly asked what kind of people join our retreats.

Our visitors are both men and women, of various ages and with very different backgrounds. Most people come alone to our retreat but we also regularly have people who come together (couple, friends or family).

Our experience is that every group has a great connection from the start of the retreat.

A retreat is  great place to meet like-minded people and we have seen a lot of new friendships.

But during the retreat you have all the freedom to be by yourself and enjoy the  beautiful spots in the tropical gardens.

All activities are also voluntary. The most important thing is that you can relax and enjoy this special time for yourself.

We choose to work with small groups. There will be a maximum of 10 people participating.

Viva La Vida

Who created Viva La Vida? We are a Dutch family who decided a couple of years ago to go on an adventure in the beautiful Andalusia. We first planned to go for a year, but we enjoyed it so much that we  decided to stay here for a longer period.

We, Jeroen and Ilse-Marie, and our two daughters Elise-Sophie and Ana Rosa, have found a pretty old cortijo in an incredibly beautiful area.

We are very enthusiastic about the area and like to share it with other people. We organize yoga retreats and yoga & walking holidays all year round at the most beautiful places in Andalusia. We really enjoy to create a special program for you. We try to give our retreats something extra. We bring you to beautiful places and organise do special activities, hikes and workshops.

Furthermore we will learn you some useful tools to relax and to re-energize to take home with you.
